My friends new 1 gig Ram card doesn't show up in his system profile. I believe that it's installed correctly but he's still running 256mb. Any suggestions?

And if it is properly installed/seated, are you sure the RAM you bought is (1) Mac compatible and (2) the proper speed (e.g., PC2700 DDR333)?

It might be the bad logic board. It happened to me on my powerbook once.

these are the possibilities:

1. bad ram slot (logic board problems)
2. bad ram (speed or compatibility)
3. no installed properly

hope you figure it out

Update

Thanks for the replies, guys.

We took to your advice and reinserted the RAM card (yeah, we made sure it snapped in and everything) and it still didnt work. Nothin'. So he called in and got them to accept a return on the RAM, but just to be consistent, he went home and tried taking it out and putting it back in again...AND IT WORKS!

so thats good news. thanks again.

The usual problem on Powerbook and iBook RAM is not inserting the connector edge of the module firmly enough into the socket WHILE it is at the 30 degree angle, BEFORE laying it down to the flat position. It takes moderate pressure from both thumbs to seat it in properly.

You should see none or very little of the module's connectors remaining visible. If you can see more than 1 mm (1/32") of the gold connectors, or if you can see more of the connectors on one side vs. the other, it's not in right.

Thanks
