Hello, I am happy to say i got my first Mac (and first laptop) last friday. I went to the apple store and got my brand new 1.83 white MacBook. I have two questions for you guys.
1. I am looking to upgrade my ram, i know apple reccomends installing ram in pairs so would i get more performance from replacing one of my 256 chips with a 1 gig stick or from 2 512 sticks.
2. are there any suggestions on things to get for my mac besides ram and case (getting one soon)?

Welcome to MR

Your first lesson is to use the Search function of the Forum, because we have covered the RAM question thoroughly and repeatedly

In general, Dual-channel (matched) RAM will give a modest improvement in performance. But it is not worth shorting yourself on RAM for. The improvement from having more total RAM outweighs the improvement from having less but matched RAM.

Then, you will likely want to go to the full 2 Gb sometime in the future, and if you had stuffed the machine with 2 x 512, you will be removing and disposing of the 512's to make room for the 1 Gbs

As always, choose your RAM from a reputable third-party dealer who tests and guarantees compatibility with your model Mac, offers a lifetime warranty, and a no-cost (no restocking charge) return if it doesn't work.

Thanks

Thank You

Sorry about not looking first but thank you for the advice. I will probably buy my ram after i get the case then.
