Hey i have a 20" imac 2.66 /w 2 gb of ram.
And i use my mac for everything! but im having trouble with the ram. Like the more programs i use the more ram it takes.. but when i close it, it only releases a few memory space and i end up having 100 mb of free memory at the end of the day.

Is upgrading to 4 gb necessary ? Also is it necessary for gaming? Like COD4.

Well, that's what you'd expect.:p

Anyway, check Activity Monitor (in Applications/Utilities) and under System Memory see if you're getting a lot of Page Outs, if you are, then you may want to get some more RAM, otherwise, you're fine with what you have. As for gaming, 2GB is more than enough for pretty much any game, I'd recommend going for more only if you intend to play a lot of games at the highest graphical settings.

Many people here on this forum are running fine on 2GB of RAM. So much depends on your usage and expectation.

Having said that, memory is relatively cheap and is easy to install in an iMac so I would upgrade to 4GB.

if u had tobuy ram what brand would u recommend?
Is the OCW good from macsales.com
