Hello everyone. I have a Mac Pro 3,1 8 Core. I looked up to purchase some ram to upgrade from my meager current 2gb's. I used the crucial scan tool and this is one of the choices within it:

I copied and pasted the ram "settings" into amazon and came up with this:

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-TWIN2...r=8-6&keywords=PC6400+DDR2+ECC+800MHz+240+Pin

Does this particular ram work in this Mac Pro? If so, is it optimal or should I just go with the macsales one?
(ADDED) I also have read one thread that said something about recommending people to get ram that has the better heat sink. I am not sure if it makes a difference in this case.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

If you want to save a few $$ for new apple approved RAM and heat sinks, you can get a pair of 2GB sticks from DMS for $98. 8GB of RAM for $196. Other configs available.

I've always had good luck with DMS, purchased many RAM sticks from them over the years (as well as some hard drives) without one issue or failure.

Last week I picked up a DM61 677-1 x 2 package which is a 4GB Kit (2 x 2GB) DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) CL6 1.8v 240 Pin ECC FBDIMM (FullyBuffered) Apple Approved RAM.

I would recommend thinking about the DMS sticks as you will see some recent reports here of OWC RAM failures in MPs, although they are quick to exchange them (like about any major player in the RAM business).

No, it will not. 3,1s need fully-buffered memory (FB-DIMMs) with Apple-specific heatsinks.

Off the top of my head, you best bets are (no particular order):

OWC/Macsales
Trans Intl
Crucial
Memory America

All of these vendors sell compatible RAM with lifetime warranties. Unfortunately, FB-DIMMs are very expensive compared to the unbuffered ones that newer (4,1 and later) Mac Pros use.
