RAM from old iMac into new

Does anyone know if I would be able to utilize two 8gb of ram from my old mid-2011 iMac in my newer late 2015 iMac? And if so would it be as impactful as buying/using brand new ram?

I would expect that moving PC3-10600 RAM sticks to a system that supports PC3L-14900 would not likely work.
The sticks will fit into the slots but I don't think the iMac will clock down far enough to allow them to work.
