I have about 1.5GB of RAM in my Core Duo MacBook Pro right now. How much of a performance boost do I get from matched RAM? Also, can I put 2 2GB RAM cards into my MacBook Pro or can the logic board not handle it?

A matched pair won't bring you that large of a performance boost. ...But if you were to upgrade to 2 x 1 GB chips, you'd be getting an extra 500 MB + the bonus of having a matched pair ...which together, would be noticeable.

I do not believe your model can handle 4 GB.

I think the most common value that people say matched pairs can bring is
around 5-10% (while 10% seems rather high for my taste).
I'd say you'll get the most boost out of the extra 512MB

Okay, so I've looked at a few different RAM cards from NewEgg. What's the least amount I should pay for a 1GB card to be sure I'm getting quality RAM?

since I don't know the prices for rams in the us I'll just name a few brands that seem to be popular with mac owners.

crucial, kingston, owc,

I think these are the most popular brands (if not, at least the most named in forums).

I believe you can get a 1 GB stick from crucial for about $30. ...I don't see how you could find anything much cheaper than that.
