Hello all!!

I have problems with geekbench speed and score after upgrading ram.

With official Apple ram (8x4 = 32gb): I get 17.800 points in geekbench 5.

I've purchased 32gb+32gb from OWC at 2933mhz speed. So, if I mix OWC ram with Apple ram (in the right ram sockets of course...) I get 15.000 score.

If I remove the OWC ram (same ram freq than apple, again), I get again 17.800-17.900 points.

So, what I thought is that apple's ram chip does not sync perfectly with OWC's ram chip, so, I bought 16x2 more OWC ram to substitute apple 8x4 modules.

Now, I have 32+16+16+32 all of OWC, same speed, same latency, and so. No apple ram sticks at all, and I still get 15.000 points in geekbench... So... My doubt is easy, why I get less speed with OWC memories?

Same speed than Apple's RAM, same latency... Im frustrated!

I had problems when I mixed Ram. Apple and in my case Nemix. When I bought all nemix it ran much better. I don’t have any tests to quote but I was crashing.

To me it sounds like the differing sizes are the problem, could be messing up the multi-channel support.

When I upgraded the RAM in my 7,1, I ordered a 6x 16GB kit to take full advantage of the tri-channel support, and put the original Apple memory in a box.

I know you said you’ve got them all in the right channels, but have you read through the Apple support page on it?

This is normal, in order to get the mos out of the CPU you need to have all the modules with the same size. and if its posible all the six channels occupied.

Hello all! yes, I followed apple guide of 4 and 6 ram slots, and well configurated. I upload here 2 screenshots so you can check it. Maybe is because I need same ram size in all slots, maybe... So, I will return my 2x16 and will buy 2x32 to have 4x32 OWC.

Did you check your geekbench score with your 6x16gb ram?

Thanks!

if you only put 4 sticks of the same size you will still loose some performance, like i told you you need at least 6 sticks of the same size to get the most performance. your cpu normally would achieve 18,000 multicore geekbench with 6 or more sticks, which means all 6 channels are populated

Yeah, I understood this, but I cant waste this money in RAM now. So, with 4 sticks I could be able to reach 17k score... In the future I will buy 2 more sticks. 17k is better than 15k...

Hi everyone,
I have 4 native sticks (4x8Gb) and i added 4 new sticks (4x32Gb) with the appropriate configuration.
My geekbench score is better with only 4x32Gb (without the 4x8Gb sticks).
Should I work with only 4 sticks or is it better with the 8 sticks even if the score is a little bit under ?
I understand that it wouldn't be better with 6 sticks because they don't have the same size...
