My iMac was starting to run a bit sluggish so I figured it was time to up the ram from the factory 1gb. So I bought a 2gb stick and tossed it in there. I left one of the 512 sticks in there aswell. Any ideas why in about this mac I would only be getting 2gb? Even though I actually have 2.5gb in the machine? Can someone also explain to me what Wired, Active, Inactive, And Free ram actually mean. I keep a close eye on those numbers in istat and really have no idea what they mean...lol

Thanks...It's an August 2007 iMac
2.5 GB is fine but I'm surprised you didn't just go for a full 4 GB.

I wonder what's up with that 512 MB stick. Have you looked in System Profiler or reseated the RAM?
