Ram slots???

Hey everyone,

I just bought a new macbook yesterday(2.16, 1g ram, 120g hd model) and opted not to upgrade the ram to 2gig through apple cause it's cheaper to buy it from online.

My question is, how do the slots work? I am not totally oblivious to computer hardware but I just want to make sure I buy the right thing for what I want. The macbook comes with 2x512 ram kit. If I upgrade to 2gig ram, do I need to buy 1gigx2 ram kit, a single 1gig ram or another 2x512 kit?

there is only two slots, so if you have 2x512 now and want 2gb total you will have to buy two 1gb sticks.

and the Apple 512's will have to come out.

You can confirm the Apple RAM configurations by going to the Apple online store and 'customizing' your particular model of machine.

If you already have the machine, you can go to System Profiler and look up the memory hardware, it will give you the amount in each socket. It will call the sockets DIMM sockets, when in reality they are SO-DIMMs.
