Hi, so currently I have 4 x 4GB RAM modules in my 5,1 Mac Pro
Ive heard that just running three modules lets the RAM run in Triple channel mode and 50% faster
So, Id like to test RAM speeds with all four modules in, against just 3 modules in it
I just cant seem to find a RAM speed test program
Thanks guys

I have some doubts for 50%. 20 to (max!) 30% sounds more realistic to me.
That's taking about pure memory performance without cache under extreme scenario. Which never happen in real world (e.g. no real world application will disable cache).

In reality, the overall system performance difference is hardly noticeable (or even not measurable for most normal usage).

I ended up in this thread because I was also trying to assess whether to install 6x 16GB or 8x 16GB. I was aware of the triple-channel mode from all the various threads about the topic (yes, it has definitely come up many times and has been answered many many times!) But here I (newbie) go again - I am pasting the results from GB5 for both setups. Several results do end up being about 50% slower with the 8x 16gb. I know I know - GB5 is not at all a reliable benchmark for real world use, I used it as a quick way to test both setups before doing more extended actual use etc.

If your applications can take advantage of more RAM, use it. Any minor speed differences are easily made up for with the additional capacity.
