hi all,
i recently upgraded my Mac Pro early 2009//4,1 to a 5,1.
i ordered2 w5680 cpu's and found out i had a single processor.
still i put in the single processor and it is running fine now.
now i want to upgrade my ram i want full capacity.
i have read that since i put in 1 of 2 duoprocessors i can take advantage of the last slot and put in 64 gb of ram.
i see an offer for 4 x 16gb ddr3 1333Mhz 10600R. which is registered buffered ram.
somewhere else i read the Mac Pro does not like the R because it is unbuffered.
then there is also server ram for sale the PC3L, would this work in my mac?¿

is there an answer somewhere....?¿
best

thanks for the thread...
i learned to either get UDIMMS or RDIMMS, not to mix hese up.
still my questions about Registered buffer the 10600R and registered buffer in unresolved, or did i miss anything.
also my question about server ram for my MP 5,1, what is the difference and could i use this.
hope there is light
thanks

Nearly all registered modules are ECC modules, and those specifically are recommended for MP/macOS use. Check the thread link provided to you in #2 and search this forum for the exact part number you are looking to verify compatibility with.

This is your concern.

From that thread.

RDIMM Supported Model Numbers (cMP 5,1)
- Yes RDIMMs work but you cannot mix with UDIMMs

Clearly it solves your problem. “Mac Pro doesn’t not like the R...” is wrong.

And technically, there is no “server RAM” (RAM for server only). As long as the spec match, it will work.

If you read that thread. I already answer in post #3, both 1.35V (PC3L) and 1.5V (PC3) work on 5,1, and they will all run at 1.5V.
