I've an old iBook G4 800Mhz system currently with 256MB of RAM. I've no idea how much RAM will i be able to fit in. Anyone with that system or have any knowledge on this, help me figure out how much more RAM i can put in? I think the maximum I can put in is 640MB (Not sure...) but I'd want to put 1GB of RAM in it but is this do-able? Any recomendations of any place I can search for cheap RAMs? I live in the UK so any recomendations on anywhere I can search online and what type of RAM / brands should I be looking for that are compatitable? Thanks in advance.

You need to remove the 128MB SO-DIMM currently in the RAM slot to upgrade, but you can put up to 1GB in there if you can find a reasonably priced one. So your maximum RAM potential is 1152MB.

Use PC2700 DDR RAM.

Anyone else able to suggest a UK vendor?

I just went over to Crucial and according to the website, the max i can install is 640MB. Is that true? Where can I get a GB of RAM for my iBook?

The web is quite conflicting on the maximum, however, this site as well as the specs page for that model at LowEndMac both say that your iBook will take 1GB.

Crucial do the 1GB module (it's PC2700 RAM you need, rather than PC133 as I mistakenly said earlier), but they just don't show it on the iBook 800 page because they think it has the 640MB maximum. Try here. The 1GB SODIMM you want is the top one.

Please don't buy from Crucial...you'll get better prices and an honest company if you use either OWC or DMS. If they won't ship to the UK, there have to be better vendors than Crucial...

I think I'll get a GB of RAM in it. I'll try and search around. Thanks a lot for the info. It looks like to ship to the UK, additional charges etc will apply so I guess I'll stick to UK dealers.

Hey DN, here's the Crucial RAM again, only it's £9 cheaper including shipping :)

And here's another brand entirely (Kingston) for even less. About £80 inc. shipping I think.

The Crucial one looks pretty good. £91.13. Does it include shipping? The Kingston is great...:D

No, it's an extra £4.50 for shipping including VAT. I'm actually getting tempted myself, since it's the same one that my PB12" takes :)
