even in '99 when I got my B&W, 128mb was the least amount of ram you could order from the apple store, and shortly thereafter when OS 9 came around, I was glad I had that much. And when OS X came out, 128mb was peeweewee too little
Yep, it's very weird. I can remember using my friend's old Compaq back in like '98 with only 64MB of RAM and not experiencing any slowdown that I can remember. Crazy stuff. Also, the price of RAM has changed so much. I've got all kinds of old Mac Addicts and it's crazy how much people were paying for like 64MB back then. Insane. I'm about to upgrade my Power Mac to 2GB and it's only gonna cost like $150. Back in 2000, it was $249 for a 128MB stick of PC100.
