RAM went bad.. But which stick?

I have two 256MB sticks in my PowerBook. It came with one, and I bought the other one later.

The RAM in the lower slot is the one that died (or at least isn't functioning at the moment). Which one is that. Is the lower slot the one that had the stock RAM, or is it the one that I added. It is also SODIMM0 (the good stick is SODIMM1).

I'd take one out and re-run memtest. If it passes the other is the bad stick.

On second thought, it might also be wise to test both sticks in both slots. I don't know how you determined that you RAM was not working, but failure might be associated with a faulty slot or mis-seated chip. Just a thought to be on the safe side, don't want to accidentally toss a working RAM chip.

The lower slot should be the one you added (unless you moved the stock one when you added yours). But I would agree with garfield2002...make sure it's not just mis-seated and swap the chips to convince yourself that it's really a bad chip.

Yea I didn't do a proper troubleshoot, I was more curious as to which slot was which. I will indeed open it up and make sure of those things.

I had 512MB of RAM, and then I noticed my computer running sluggishly. I opened up system profiler to find that I was running only on 256MB of RAM, which is rather weak in the computer.
