Hi Guys

I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014). It runs on 1600MHz DDR3 RAM.
My iMac has four RAM slots. I'm only using two. These are 2 x 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 chips.
The other two slots are not in use.
My dad has two spare RAM chips from an older iMac that are 1333MHz.
Can I use these two 1333MHz chips in addition to the my 1600MHz in the two currently empty slots?
Will it work and if so would it have any effect?

Cheers

Your 1600 RAM will clock down and run @ 1333MHz. As long as the other specs match up it should work, it will just run at the lower speed

Hey marzfreerider! Thanks for the reply. So if I were to put the two 1333MHs in, it would lower the other two 1600MHz RAMS down to 1333MHz? If so do you think it would be worth having 4 x 4GB running at 1333MHz or stick with just 2 x 4GBs running at 1600MHz? Cheers

That's correct, it will lower the speed for all to 1333MHz. Extra RAM is always nice and the difference in performance would be small.

Thanks. So I guess it would still be worth putting them in. Cheers and thanks for your thoughts. Massive help.
