Guys!

As I was surfing macrumors I spotted a site RAMJET.COM. I checked out their prices on RAM for my iMac, and boyd did I surprised myself!

Howcome Apple prices for:

Apple Memory Module 512MB 667MHz DDR2 (PC2-5300) SO-DIMM
U$75 + Tax

in Ramjet price for same Dimm is:

512mb DDR2 PC2-5300 for iMac Intel
Specifications:
PC2-5300, DDR2-667, 667Mhz, Latency 5-5-5, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, 1.8V, 200pin SO-DIMM
U$29 + Tax!

Why the difference, is more than twice the price than in Ramjet.com.... how come!?

Any advise?

Ramjet is cheaper not because they are refurbished or DOA's or anything similar to it?

So it would be better buying the imac with the least ram possible in Apple then buy the additional ram at ramjet...?

you got it, this is what most people who buy like mac pros do, they'll get like 1GB of ram and then get like 4 2GB Sticks of 3rd party ram.

How many additional slots does the imac has for upgrading ram?

There are two slots. The iMac supports up to 4 gb of memory.

You can have 3 gb of RAM. CanadaRAM said it best in this thread, post #22:

according to crucial.com my imac maximum RAM cap. is 2048 (2Gb)

In the new iMac (aluminium) there are 2 slots for RAM.

It comes with 1GB which is in one of the slots.

You can buy 1GB or 2GB stick of RAM for the other slot: most people recommend getting the same amount of RAM for both slots because of the way RAM works in the new computers - it does better if it's the same amount in each slot. In this case, you would buy either 1GB to match the existing 1GB or buy 2 x 2GB for a total of 4GB.

make sure the RAM you buy comes with a lifetime warranty, and that there is a no questions asked, quick replacement policy in case the RAM is no good.
