Random disconnection of internal HDD

Hi,

I've got a strange problem with one of two internal HDD on my PowerMac G5.

All of a sudden, it disappears from the desktop with an error message about improper devise removal. I've checked the cables: everything is like it should be. After restart all drives are back at the desktop. But it keeps happening...

fsck didn't help.
I'm running DiskWarrior right now, curious whether it'll help.

What could it be? Both drives are quite new Seagate 7200.10, I think... Not older than 1 year.

Sounds like something is physically wrong with either the drive or its connection on the logicboard. I'd call Seagate and get it replaced under warranty.

If BOTH drives are doing it... I'd put my money on a faulty HDD controller over two new drives BOTH being bad...

It's every time the same drive. The other one has never had such problems...

Well! That's a horse of a different color!

I'd swap the drive's position on the chain... i.e., swap the physical location with each other. Mac doesn't care where each one is (make sure any jumpers are set correctly for Master/Slave).

If the other drive starts falling off... it's a controller. If the same drive falls off, it's the hard drive.

Either way, you'll know for sure which one it is that way.

Hi,

Here are some news. DickWarrior hasn't helped: 'incorrect disk removal' happened again. I've swapped the HDDs, putting the drive with the system in place of the 'problematic' one, and for a few days I haven't had this issue, although it's never happened really frequently, let's say once in 2 or 3 days.

What I do see now, is system freezing after log-out -> sleep -> wake-up (the wheel spinning forever). This thing occurs also not every day, but more or less with the same periodicity like the 'disk removal' before. Some time ago I've already experienced these wake-up troubles; I believe, it a quite widespread soft(hard?)ware bug, so I can not be sure for 100 % that this freezing correlates with the initial issue...

I have the exact issue. Finally, I realized that it was a faulty brand new drive. The drive behaves normal when it was idle. And just getting disconnected intermittently when it was under the stress load. The drive was purchased thru TargetPC Inc, USA. I have just shipped it back to USA from South Pacific Asia. The air-shipping cost is very expensive.
 
I know this is an old forum, but I am having a similar issue and hope someone has some suggestions. I have a MacBook Pro 2013 wit 2 SSD internal drives installed. I have been using the computer and drives as is for years. Suddenly while using computer today got message that one of the drives was improperly ejected. When I go to Disk Utility the ejected disk does not show up at all. The computer has not been dropped or jostled in any way, it has been sitting on a desk for months. What would make this perfectly functioning (not new) drive suddenly disconnect?
