Apparently, Random House is the only major publisher not in with the iBooks idea.

They seem to think that holding out for a "price war" will benefit them.

This is stupid.

Some of my favorite books are by Random House (Hitchhiker's Guide, Dan Brown books, etc). In preperation for my iPad 3G, i've been looking up my favorite books/books i already own so that i already know what to get when i get it. Lo and behold-No Random House. And you know what that means?

I have to resort to torrenting my favorite books.

Nice logic there, Random House.

When Kindle iPhone app came out it brought me back to buying books. I have no desire to buy a book for $20+ dollars, if electronic books ever raise up too close to store prices I will stop buying any books.

Speaking of kindle, they actually have randomhouse on there. But I don't want to splinter by book collection- I want to keep it all on iBooks. It's prettier, works better, and its native.

iBooks isn't native. It's made by Apple - but it's an App just like Kindle is. Works better? Debatable.

At least with Kindle/Amazon you can share books across devices

While I like the Kindle app, I just find the iBook experience better.

I don't mean this in a negative way (I love the book), but why is everyone on this site so enthralled with the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? I've seen it referenced in so many posts/avatars/wallpapers. Just interesting.

It's a SciFi-parody classic, but more importantly the "Guide" referenced in the title was sort of an electronic book. Not wholly unlike an iPad.

You're right, it isn't native. But it's first party.

I don't have a kindle, and even though he feautyre exists: why would you ever read your kindle books on an iPhone/Blackberry/Computer? Just because a feature is there doesn't mean it's a good one

Why?

Because I don't carry my iPad around with me. When I'm on the subway, bus or waiting for my fiancee to finish trying on an outfit or whatnot, I can read on my iPhone and it remembers where I was on any device. I also have a kindle. Which means when all I plan on doing is reading - I can turn it on and read it.

Just because YOU don't see a use for it doesn't mean it's not a good one :)
