I think I found my solution. A second mouse that was connected is turned on and packed away...causing it to be stuck in the clicked position...I think...I feel like an idiot.

How old is your Mac? I presume it is a laptop?

For a laptop, if battery is swollen, it can have intermittent trackpad response issue.
