sometimes, not very often, my ipod will randomely be playing a song and when the song is done playing, the ipod will reset itself by itself without no user intervention.. and i see the apple logo and everything.. once done... im back to the main screen.. but why does it do this? is it like a maintenance check from time to time?

i get some random restarts from time to time as well, but my iPod will keep restarting over and over once it's restarted once. to fix it i have to dock my iPod and everything continues to work as normal once again. baffles me.

Just curious.. Does this happen on songs that are downloaded from ITMS, Songs that are ripped from CD's or stuff that was downloaded from the internet via Kazza or Limewire??? The reason I ask this is that I downloaded a file from Kazza that had a bad section that caused both winamp and media player to crash. This was before I got my pod but it would have probably bombed it as well. Just a thought.

Good point, but generally iTunes wont transfer the song across if it's corrupt. My iPod sometimes (but not often) restarts if I suddenly jerk it, if the battery's really low, if I select a new song while I'm jogging and it's not already in the buffer. This last example usually results in a freeze rather than a restart, but I've seen both.

BTW watcher2001, generally a bad idea to talk about songs downloaded from P2P networks on Macrumors.

none of the ipods i have had showed this behavior....my sister's mini does this sometimes as well but im not sure what the cause is.

the only time i get my iPod rebooting like that is if i leave it off for a couple of days or if the battery is very low...

no but when it happens randomely, i kinda freak out b/c my song stops playing and like it almost seems like all my songs get erased! thankfully they don't... :)
