finally got my macbook replaced after countless attempts of solving the "random shutdown" problem. i'm hoping that this new macbook doesn't do the same.

I just got off apple care and they said the problem is the cable from the PSU to the logic board. Which they just have to re-sit properly.

Does this mean that Apple has finally found the definite cause of this embarrassing problem??

I replaced my 3rd party ram with the original Apple ram (always a good idea to keep at least one stick of it) and i still get the random shutdowns.

I'm bringing it back to an apple authorised repair place tomorrow.

As for what you can do if you have the problem, reset the PMU, check to make sure it happens on battery and DC, reseat the memory and then call apple. They'll ask you to do all those steps and you can confidently say you did it all and it still resets.

I had this issue, and had AppleCare send me a repair box. In ym reciept, it showed the aprts replaced, but no description. They replaced the keyboard and bezel because I had also told them about the discoloration, but there is one part number that is confusing me. APP-605-0994 SVC. I called AppleCare regarding this, and they didn't know what the part was, not even the supervisors, does anyone know what that part is? Also, when the repaired computer was returned to me, I had turned it on, and there were vertical colored lines that came up, so I reset the PRAM and it fixed it, but it does it every time i start the computer up. It is currently being repaired for this issue now. Could these issues be related?

my friend got a macbook (under my recommendation) at the end of may. last week it started random shut downs, they replaced the heat shield and told her to zap the pram if she had anymore problems. its back in the shop now, guess there's a lot of confusion about this problem.
