Hi all,

Today I experienced two random shut downs on my MacBook Pro 2019 running Big Sur.
It’s never happened before and I cannot pinpoint anything I was doing to cause this.

I was working on it as usual, then all of a sudden the screen would freeze for about 2-3 seconds, then the fans would spin up really fast for no more than 1 second before it would fully shut itself down, before automatically starting back up again.

Anyone had this happen to them before?

I’m a bit baffled by it and can only assume it’s something to do with Big Sur.

I installed Big Sur on my 2014 iMac and it crashes/shuts down of it’s own accord within half an hour of starting. Always. Even with no applications running.

I'm having an odd thing where my 2019 5k iMac randomly restarts—but without error. It shuts all open programs, then restarts itself. I thought maybe it had to do with my UPS shutdown settings, but both are off.

NB: there is no error message or anything like that; it's as if I restarted it myself, except I didn't, and was away from the machine at the time.

Anyone know where I would look in the system logs for this—and for what I would search?

Thanks!

William

I wiped the drive and installed Catalina on it.No crashes, so it was not the drive, it’s Big Sur.
