My MBP CD has begun to shut down, without any warning, at around 36-47 min of battery life remaining. Is there a fix for this?

Only guess I have is a system preference...look under energy saver and click the lower right click on the button that lets you shut down the computer at certain times just to make sure that is not set accidently.

A couple of months ago my Macbook started shutting down with the battery showing 18% life left.
Even though the Macbook and battery were around 10 months old Apple sent me a new battery, which has been problem free.
I guess it was defective.
Maybe your's is defective as well.
I'd give them a call if you had your computer less than a year.

There won't be anything in the System Prefs which governs shutdown behavior based on power status. The problems that you are experiencing are probably due to a battery problem, contact Apple.
