Random "trust this computer" prompt

I occasionally get random "trust this computer" prompt on my iPhone. This is NOT when connected to a computer via USB.

It has happened at home, but also happened elsewhere.

I reply "no", but I can't say for sure that I haven't accidentally or without thinking replied "yes" in the past.

When it occurs when not connected by USB (presumably, WiFi or Bluetooth) it begs the question: trust WHICH computer?! You'd think it would occur to Apple by now that the user might want to know what computer they are being asked to trust...

I think I've gotten this on my Apple Watch as well.

Sorry for being vague, but it didn't just happen. (But has happened within the past month.) Thought of it after reading the recent news around fake Apple ID password prompts.

To be clear, these are not password prompts, but just "trust this computer?"

Out of curiosity, if you were to sign in to “appleid.apple.com”, do you see any unrecognized devices logged in to your account?

After login, I got a popup "An unknown error has occurred. Your request could not be completed because of an error. Try again later". I don't know what "request" it means. But went to home page, and was able to view devices.

There are no unrecognized devices.

(Update: ah scrolling down "Your payment information is currently unavailable. Please try again later". Strange.)

I have a Mac Mini and an old Macbook, both of which stay at my home. And a collection of iPhones and iPads (I'm a developer). I'm unclear what counts as a "computer", but I assume only the Mac Mini and Macbook.

I've gotten this popup asking if I want to "trust this computer" out in public, far from home. But also in my home.

i have only gotten this message when i have logged onto mac in the seconds immediately before.
it doesn't need to have both devices on the same network or anything like that.
if you have gotten this message at any other time other than when you immediately before logging into a device it would be certainly strange and would indicate that someone is indeed trying to log into your account somewhere (but not succeeding since it shows no unknown devices when you checked in the apple ID).
