Huge fan of Apple TV. 'til about 15 minutes ago. And waiting for an ATV expert to humiliate me. Good luck.

I loaded a video to YouTube. It's there. I've viewed it. My family has viewed it. You can even Google the title, and it'll show up as the first video option. Anyway, just a short cute video of our daughter about a minute long. Wanted to surprise the wife with it. So, I go to ATV to show her on the big screen, go to YouTube, and search the exact title of the video. The same title that works from my Mac. ATV says: "No results!" I actually try the key words. Same thing: "No results " Alright, so I sign into my YouTube account. I figure, I'll just view my videos from my account. Eeeeeeeeh! (Mistake buzzer) No *****. You cannot load your own videos! from your account on the ATV! You can load "favorites," or "subscription," or log out, but there's no freakin' option to load your own videos! WTF??

So, seriously, after convincing wife Apple TV is worth our pennies, she has to resort to watching the video on the Mac. I cannot believe that when you sign I to your YouTube account on e ATV that you do not have the option to view your own account videos. One of the most awesomely stupid omissions for this thing.

Is it a public or private video? If it's public, post the name of the video and/or your youtube name. I'll try and call it up on my aTV.
 
Some videos aren't available to view on iOS devices, not sure if youtube just doesn't use the right codec all the time?

I think there's some checkboxes that must be checked in order to upload with h264
 
The YouTube search on AppleTV is pretty random (in that it seems to work sometimes, but not consistently). However, the suggestion to drop the video into iTunes and stream it to the AppleTV is a good one. In fact, one of the best features of the AppleTV is that it is the best way to view home videos. Plus, the quality will be better than watching it on YouTube.

So, no reason to watch home videos on the computer; put 'em in iTunes and stream them to the AppleTV.
 
Why not go into your YouTube account and add your uploaded videos to your "Favorites"? This folder will then be available on your ATV.

watching my friend struggling to type something in using the "arcade cabinet keyboard" and then search was painful, embarrassing almost.

Accessing anything Google from the Web is different than from Apps using their API. Your video will probably appear in the results after some time. Takes my videos a little while. This is not AppleTV specific.

I second that. You have to wait a day or two for Youtube to convert the file to h264. Not a problem with your AppleTV, it's Youtube.
 
Yep, sounds to me like YouTube has not yet converted it to mp4. THe flash default will usually be immediately available while the converted mp4 format might take a while. That's how it works but I don't upload content to YouTube so I can't say for sure how long or how variable the conversion time might be.
 
Same thing happens with youtube on the iPhone, its hit or miss when searching for a video sometimes.
 
I'm confused as to why you chose to share this over youtube if you made it on a mac?

Just save an itunes version and stream it straight to the TV - you don't have to wait on internet speeds or deal with youtube at all! :)

Likely because he wanted his family (outside his home) to see it. ;)

Which is fine, but I always put a copy into iTunes anyway just to have a copy for iOS devices. Once in there it can go to ipods, iphones, ATVs and iPads all at once...

Then again I hate YouTube's compression when I'm trying to upload something so I'm a little biased lol. :apple:
