I have a 2019 16" and a 2012 27" that I'm scheduled to replace by 2028 and 2024 respectively.

3 weeks ago someone reached out to me if I had a spare Mac I could sell/lend.

Tried to help him fix it as it's cheaper than me selling my 27" with 32GB RAM and 128GB SSD.

Did not occur to me that I should go along with what he wanted and sell the 27" for $500 down and $40/month for 24 months.

With $1,000 in pocket I could put it into the stock market to make the additional $1000 needed for a base model Apple Silicon iMac 27".

The M1 chip with 10-15W TDP found in the Mac mini, MBP 13" and MBA has the highest single core performance of any Mac whether it be a 2017 iMac Pro, 2019 Mac Pro Xeon or 2020 iMac 27" Core i9. Only those Pro desktops outperform it in multi-core performance.

All those Intel Mac pro desktops have Intel chips with TDP of 65-205W.

M1 has the fastest integrated GPU on record. It's faster than a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti for a 10-15W part.

Such a bonehead. :(

$500 PLUS $40 a month for 24 months - for a 2012 iMac!!?!?

The $500 alone would have been a somewhat reasonable sales price. (But really, probably less).

I simply cannot get past the fact you found an idiot willing to give you $1400+ for a 2012 imac.

For less, anyone could get a MUCH better imac.

in other words,I cannot believe you didnt sell it.

Another case of those who can afford the least always getting the worst deals.
Not their fault, but just the way the system works, unfortunately

My mistake. It's $40/month for 12 months. o_O

Fella wants to buy the base Mac mini and connect it to a HDMI 2.0 display.

He's a photographer... so the colors will be interesting. ;)

They sell TN displays where he lives and he isnt aware about IPS. :D

Regardless ... $500 plus $480 ($980) is still WAAAAAY too much for anyone with half a brain to spend on that system.

But but it has these
  • 27" IPS display
  • 32GB RAM
  • Intel chip, relevant as the fella uses pirated apps. Apple Silicon apps are mostly SaaS now. Rosetta 2 may not handle old pirated apps
  • Keyboard/mouse
Perhaps I should have offered it at $700? :D He mentioned $700 in my initial offer.

Fine specs for 2012 - But news flash bud: We’re almost in 2021 at this point. 😎

Can you Imagine if in 2020 someone tried to sell you a 2012 HD tv for even $300? If you’re like most people, you’d think - why spend ANY money on that ancient piece of tech gone by?

Because the owner's 2011 iMac died due to cigarette smoke. High temps due to tar buildup melted the soldering so the GPU got borked.

He's also unemployed so.... I guess I should offer $500? ;)
