I'm trying to determine if my battery is as healthy as everyone else. It seems like when I play with it over lunch for about an hour my battery goes down a good 10%.

I'm going to run a test by playing a movie for 45 mins and see how fast it drains it. Brightness at 100%, sound completely muted.

What is the battery draining rate you guys are seeing?

I am wondering because I've noticed that with an hour of playing time at lunch and then a couple hours at night I'm seeing numbers in the 60% which seems rather quick if the battery is to last 11 hours.

Thanks

Ok started playback of Up! at 10:23 central time with battery at 100%. I'll try to let it go until 11:23 to get a solid 1 hour reading.

Math is fun :)
If you expect to get 10 hours of battery life, that means you'll lose about 10% an hour.

I was getting about 10% an hour until recently. Now I seem to get much less. Down to 78% after 1 hour and 45 minutes of web browsing and watching videos. Wonder what is causing it?

using the ABC app on wifi at max brightness mine drains about 10% an hour..Maybe even a little less!
The battery is a freak on this thing!

Well yeah I know... and I know what I posted. It just seemed like it was discharging at a faster rate than that.

But then I just did my test by leaving it playing Up! while I was in a meeting from 10:23 to 11:30. When I returned it was at 92%, so that's actually closer to the 11 hours reported by some reviewers.

Then i went and played around with it at lunch for an hour and it's down to close to 80%, but I was running some seriously intense apps on it, so that's also about right.

So anyway... looks like I'm fine and perhaps the reasons I was feeling like it was draining faster is a combination of apps (games) and losing track of time when I'm using it.

You figures are not that far out of line. Just relax and enjoy. People are freaking out over just the possibility of a problem.:eek::eek::eek:

Everytime I do the math, it works out to around 10-12 hours. Sometimes I feel like I've used it more heavily than other times though. For instance, constantly streaming movies in Netflix does not seem to drain the battery noticeably faster than light but constant web surfing.

I feel like I get quite a bit more out of the battery when I let it get a full 8 hours or so of trickle charging overnight.

I've used it day in and day out for a week now, and I only got the 20% warning once, which is just phenomenal. I hit the 10% mark daily on my iPhone, and my MacBook can't go for more than a couple hours.

Grabbing the iPad in the morning and not even bringing the charger along for a full day is huge.

Just ignore the actual percentages if you have to. They make it feel like your battery is draining more than you think it should. Ignore that, and I bet your iPad will still be working at the end of the day.

I agree, there is a setting to turn off the number percentage of your battery, and once you do, you will stop obsessing as much over it.

I find that you just have to ignore the battery life and it becomes a complete non-issue. For me, I can go a few days without charging it, and when I see the little pop up message saying you only have 20% battery life comes up, I just remember to place it in the dock that night, and the next morning its ready for a few more days of use. I can't really ask for anything better than that in terms of battery life.

I did with the iPad what I did with the iPhone: After using it for a while to get a sense of battery usage and to become comfortable with it, I turned off the percentage indicator -- it had become a distraction. I find that the battery bar is enough, and I never really run out of battery. This will help you to stop obsessing with details that might not hinder you anyway, and free you to enjoy your iPad.
