Ratings in the new Photos app?

Not sure if this has been posted about previously but I couldn't find anything.

What do you guys think will become of the 1-5 star rating of photos in the new photos app. It's never made it into iOS and by the looks of the demo Apple is focusing on the basic "favoriting" of particular images over a 5 star rating system?

Do you think migrating from iPhoto to Photos will discard this information or do you think it will just be a hidden feature that you can use if you want but won't be featured strongly?

I have about 20K images rated in my iPhoto library and manage a lot of smart albums this way, hoping that it sticks around or transitions in some way.

Hmm... I can't remember for sure, but I assume there will be tags in Photos? That would work as a replacement. A much more flexible system. Would be a good feature for iTunes as well (maybe not - theres so much metadata you can filter your results by).

As far as migrating from iPhoto to Photos. If they use tags, maybe the imported pictures will be auto-assigned tags corresponding to 1 through 5.

There is no way to know this until it's released.

Like Julien said: There's absolutely no way we can answer your question until the app has actually been released. We can all guess something, but I don't know what you would gain by that.

Wow. I agree with cmChimera.OP is just asking us to speculate as to what might become of the 5-star system. 2/3 of the threads on this board is about speculation (which is cool). Not sure why this specific thread should be nitpicked.

Not sure how you define 'nitpicking' but I was simply pointing out that we are likely 6 or more months away from learning the answer.

I speculate (pulled straight out of my but) it will be included. Is that better?

Now not to 'nitpick' your response but I see you were just 'nitpicking' my response and didn't speculate.
