Rattle from top left of macbook pro

I recevied my 1.83 macbook today. When lifting it up after putting into sleep i noticed a rattle from the top left. It sounds exactly like something hitting the fan, a screw of piece of plastic? It's really not a great sound. How easy are macbooks to take apart? I don't want it going pop because of a crappy piece of plastic. and I don't fancy waiting 2 weeks to get it repaired. It's 8 hours old!

Don't take it apart, there's too much warranty at stake. Send it to Apple to fix, you don't want loose bits potentially short-circuiting and damaging the internals.

I just had my right side fan in my week 12 (1.83) MBP replaced about a month ago, now my left fan is beginning to rattle if i turn it up over 1500rpm with smcFanControl. It's not as bad as it was with the right fan, but it will probably need to be replaced soon too. Hopefully the new fans will last a little longer.

I'm experiencing a rattle from the top left of the laptop as well, similar symptoms, I'm trying to find a way to reliable make it happen so I can take it in and be able to reproduce the problem

The smc is having mixed results for me, But it definitly does it if I pic the laptop up with the fans running and just tilt it one direction or another!

I had the same problem with my 2nd macbook. It was about 2 weeks old and I unplugged and carried it outside, when I was sitting back down I accidentally tilted it and ever since then the fan started rattling, continuously. It was barely audible but when the fan was running at full speed and I tilted the machine it made a horrible rattling noise that was VERY loud.

I just returned it and got my money back. Laptop fans aren't supposed to start making loud noises just because you tilted it a little.....

I actually found the fan speed where it seems to rattle for me! Right around 3000 rpm, will cause my fan to duplicate the rattle it makes yay! Maybe this will help others to reproduce their fan noises for the apple folks.

I took my MBP in last week and got the left fan replaced, 1 week later, the new fan is developing a rattle. My right fan is still as silent as it has been since it was replaced. This is getting annoying taking it in every 2 or 3 weeks

Mine was making this same sound... my problem was, is that it's fairly quiet, and in the mac store, its turns into a really hard to hear problem! Mine seemed to be at about 3000 rpm as well, but the guy took it in the back, and he said that he heard the noise and said it was "within the specs".... now.... I was really upset to hear that. So I showed him how it made the noise when I tilted the laptop, and he said the laptop wasn't meant to be tilted or something along those lines... I wasn't very happy with him. I should of gotten his name or something.

I'm having the same problem now. Can anyone tell me how long it took total for the repair? They quote you 7-10 business days on the phone, but how long did it take you including shipping times?

Were any of you able to get it fixed at the Genius Bar, instead of having to send it in?

I just want to know what to expect when I go in. Thanks!

I still have yet to get Apple to repair mine Everytime I go, the same guy in there says that it's within the "fan's specs" or something like that. I kind of gave up as it seems to have subsided for the most part, it's pretty rare now, could just be the Fan's not being used as much or something though.

I would imagine they should be able to order the fan while you have the laptop still, and fix it in a day or so at the Genius Bar, if you get someone nice enough to fix it for you.

I went in the other day, and it went just like you said: the guy ordered the part, and I still have my computer until they get the part in. They're still quoting 7-10 business days, but it'll probably take less than that once they have the part.
