RAW support on iOS

For some reasons, i tough iOS 8 would handle RAW files editing. Actually, it doesn't. Is there any technical reason iOS would not be able to do that compared to OSX? Why can't Apple just push camera compatibility update like on OSX?

I'm planning a 3 months backpacking in Asia and I'll be shooting RAW only (Olympus OMD if anyone care). This time, I'm not bringing any computer. iPad only. I would like to be able to post a few pictures on a blog and on Facebook. Do you guys know any workflow to do that since I don't really want to shoot RAW+ jpeg?

I have not tried this yet, because I don't have the camera kit and use my macbook instead.

Lots of iOS apps can open RAW files but they just usually don't edit the RAW. Rather they convert it to JPEG on import.

But since you're talking about posting them online that's probably good enough.

You can use Apple's camera connection kit to just copy them into the plain old 'Photos' app. Then you can open them from there with things like Photogene4 (as just one example of hundreds). Do what you want in the app and upload it to the web.

When you get home you can plug the iPad into your computer and import the photos. They're still RAW files.

(If you use Lightroom on your computer look into Lightroom for iOS. It does a lot of syncing stuff between the two versions and I'm not clear if it really works with RAW files or does a conversion like the other programs. May be worth looking into, but if you want to keep things simple, the workflow I outlined above gets the job done in a very easy way.)

Lr uses .dng files for Lr mobile.
