RDC over the net?

Straight to the point: Can I use Remote Desktop Connection (or any similar program) to access other people's PC's (or Mac's) over the internet like I can access the other systems on my own network?

The reason being I provide a lot of software help (mostly malware removal, and a few other random things I could easily do via a remote connection if I could just establish one somehow).

Absolutely. Provided the ports used aren't blocked (by the ISP/Router/firewall/whatever).

And I suspect you already know this, but just in case..

RDC is Mac -> PC only (XP Pro only?)

Alternatively, you can use VNC (free) to control remote Macs and PCs from a Mac or a PC. All you need is a client locally and the VNC server running remotely.

Timbuktu is a flashy type of VNC with many more bells and whistles and the associated price increase.

Apple Remote Desktop is indespensible for controlling Macs remotely, and can connect to anything with a VNC server running.
