RDP solution for Mac?

Hey guys,

Looking for some ideas on what people use for RDP to their Mac. I need to remote in from a Windows box, and have used the internal VNC solution before built into OS X, but it always seemed way to jittery and wasn't smooth enough. Connectivity isn't a problem on the host end considering that I have Verizon FiOS at home.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

You could use Microsoft's Remote Desktop. It's a free download from their site. Another program you can try is CoRD.

I have had some issues with RDP connecting with different computers, I went to Cord but I feel it is a little laggy.

I have Microsoft Remote Desktop installed on my Mac from the Office 2011 for Mac suite, but I didn't know I could connect to the Mac from the RDP on my Windows machine...

Not RDP protocol specific, I'm just needing some type of remote solution. I was afraid VNC was the only way, but as clunky as it is sometimes...

Apple's implementation of VNC in their Screen Sharing/Apple Remote Desktop works very well. Much better than standard VNC.

Are you using this within your private network, or connecting across the internet e.g. connecting to your home computer from your office? If it is the latter, you might try teamviewer.

I use TeamViewer, which is free for personal use and works with Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Ubuntu, iPhone, iPad, etc. It's very secure and quite simple to set up and use (no messing around with ports), which comes in handy if providing remote support to those who aren't very computer literate. You can talk them through the setup on their end and be connected to them in less than a minute. I prefer it over LogMeIn because it includes free file transfers between computers, a feature I use frequently.

Screen Sharing and ARD are Mac OS only. For cross platform, VNC is one of the only solutions.

You can set up TeamViewer for unattended access, with no port or firewall issues.

As mentioned,

For Mac to PC access you have RDP/RDC and CoRD.
For Mac to Mac Screen Sharing (It's awesome!).
For PC to Mac there is of course VNC.

OR platform crossing, free for personal use Teamviewer.
You can install it as 'on by default' so you can always access your PC or MAc at home.

I personal go with TeamView if I want to access my Computer at home.

I use CoRD for RDP sessions to any machine that supports RDP.

For VNC, I use JollysFastVNC as I find it to be great to use.
