I came across this and thought the upfront diagram (attached) was quite interesting in revealing the post production software tools used... The Adobe Premiere really does dominate for Non-Linear Picture Editor section.

The last paragraph "What Can We Learn?" provide good words of wisdom...

I think the Mac Pro 7.1 and Afterburner Card are Apple's nudge to increase the use of FCPX.

Well let's hope that Adobe can implement support for the AB soon, and increase their overall utilization of the new system's power in general as right now it's just a disgrace.

I hear you... although... pause a moment ~ and read some posts all over MR. You can actually run Windows on the Mac Pro via bootcamp on a 7.1; competitors for Pages, Numbers. You can install Linux if you want. You can run Adobe Cloud Apps or AVID which are the main competitors to FCPX. It's some big shoes - people want the magical Mac Pro 7.1 to be able to do everything perfectly for all purposes. I personally think PP and AE are being optimized for Metal. It's too much of a market for the software to keep macs slogging along as it is.
