Just bought a 2nd hand iMac with Mont. 12 OS. Very bad choice; has anyone managed a reinstall of the OS? I followed the guide and 90 mins later it had the account of prev. owner intact. Also won't allow reg. of Apple ID without offering a reason. I presumed Apple uses RMO* tech. so maybe another attempt may be fruitful. My old Lenovo Laptop is looking like the choice for grown-ups.

*Random Meaningful Outcome.

Pay close attention to all the details of the URL that five posted above.

The previous owner should have deauthorized from iTunes/Music, removed the Apple ID, etc.

You may not be able to do this yourself.
Just erasing the internal drive won't do it.

What year was the iMac made?
What size is the display?

Can you still contact the previous owner?
Is he willing to do "the removal"?

If not, you may be out of luck.

Have managed to completely erase the OS so am tentatively confident that prev. owners residues will be gone; now for the adventure of re-installation; may start with Win. 11.

In Monterey OS there is no warning or error code if the birthdate is put in using British DD/MM/yyyy; and the day is higher than 12) msg. is "can't create at this time"; Apple support states that this means that too many ID's are on the machine. So presumably many new Apple users will fall victim to this bug as their introduction to Apple products.
