Re-Installing After 27 inch I-Mac Replacement

I am returning my 27 inch I-Mac and getting a replacement (gurgling HD). I noticed some other forum members have done the same and some multiple times. I was curious once receiving the new unit how does one go about re-installing easily bookmarks, addresses and downloaded applications. In other words can one use time machine via external harddrive info from the old machine or does one use migration assistant? What is best approach???

I updated from dual core to quad core for the replacement. I felt it was worth the extra dollars to future proof my machine for future applications. I could not justify the added expense for the reported quieter 2 TB HD and decided to take my chances with the I TB again.

You can choose to restore settings from a TM backup during the setup process.

You did the same thing as me. But I upgraded from 21.5 3.33ghz into 27 i7 only paying $500 more.

The best and easiest option (other than Time Machine) would be to have both computers available and do the Migration Assistant. I don't know if you are taking the broken on to a store, or are you shipping it? If you take it to an Apple store, perhaps they will let you do the migration there? Or maybe you can give them your CC number to "hold" the new one while you do the migration at home (advanced replacement, essentially).
