I was upgrading my iMac to 8GB after my crucial 4GB kit arrived and I noticed that it is pretty difficult to install the additional 2 DIMMS. The process itself is straight forward, but pushing in the RAM and having the "click" occur (i.e. ensuring that it is properly seated), requires some force.

And for the wise cracks, yes I made sure that I was installing the RAM int he proper orientation

When I did my new mini a couple of months ago, I could not get the new DIMM in the 'virgin' slot even with considerable pressure. I then tilted the DIMM just a bit to start one end slightly before the other and it went right in.

if you are referring to the top 2 slots towards the back of the computer yes, they are.

All you have to do is press them in with 2 thumbs one on each side, easy peasy.

Most people on their first RAM upgrade are surprised by the amount of force it takes to get the DIMM in securely. Does the iMac use those flip-up risers? Those seem to take more pressure than a normal desktop slot. I was used to getting RAM into a desktop when I took my MBP to 4GB, and I was pretty nervous with how hard I had to push to get it to flip back down.

When I added mine, I tried to remove one of the existing ones just to look at it, and pulling on the black plastic tab that is supposed to remove the ram did nothing. I stopped pulling on it because it felt like it was just gonna rip out of the machine. So not quite sure how to use the black plastic tabs to remove the ram.

Pull the black tab. It is actually connected to a metal lever that will release the RAM module.
