*It’s only a rumour.

But, if the reputable information coming through is true, those using the most popular sized Face ID iPhone will be forced the decide between a much smaller screen (5.4”) & a phablet (6.7”).

The 6.1” will be without 5G, so it’s still a gimped version & not appealing to many who want to retain a perfectly sized form factor, with flagship specs.

*It’s only a rumour.

Sure, make a new SE, but don’t sacrifice your most popular form factor, which was “the future direction” back in 2017. Have they just reacted to maybe lower than expected sales of the XS, which was always going to happen seeing as it wasn’t much of an improvement over the X?

*It’s only a rumour.

If true, this is Apple betraying a major chunk of their users to satisfy the extremes (SE & Max owners) & I don’t like it.

I think you are absolutely right. I would appreciate the X Form factor a lot more. Just throw a SE2 on the market already and we're good. Never would I go with the 6.7 inch model by the way - the XS max already is ridiculously large and heavy.

I would gladly accept a smaller iPhone. I like the Plus/Max for the extra screen real estate, but it’s a chore to carry in the pocket, and quite annoying at that. It’s amazing when a smaller iPhone is that much more convenient and comfortable when carrying it in your pocket, and I’m willing to make the sacrifice to have a smaller display and anything that I need a larger display for, I will resort to my iPad or laptop.

My first thought is that thought they made the Xr too competitive.

Also, they may be trying to lower the cost of Xs, while distinguishing the Max more.

I see where you’re coming from with this. I understand the direction. However technically Apple is most likely looming at individual numbers of how each “version” is selling. Obviously a lot more than we are or we even know.

With all this said... of analytics are to be believed then the 5.8” version is NOT the most popular version of the iPhone. That distinction goes to the 6.1” version of the iPhone.. IMHO this is why these sources are saying Apple is keeping the 6.1” version. My understanding is that the 6.1” will still be OLED have more than one camera, same CPU and GPU, but only leave out 5G. Let’s all be honest here... when the 2020 release comes around 5G may just be getting rolled out. I mean nationally. Yes we have cities that “has” the 5G tech, but they actually do NOT have the tech in place for 5G in pretty much EVERYWHERE.

What I’m getting out of with the 6.1” model being the most popular model for this cycle (numerous reasons why) then I’m guessing Apple won’t “gimp” this phone too much at all.

I personally do like the 5.8” form factor, but I can’t sit here and say it’s the most popular when analytics prove otherwise.

I’m with you on it though. I honesty wish the 5.8 would stay, but I just think Apple is looking at it as the Xʀ being so popular because it’s Bigger than the XS and the actual screen real estate you get compared to the Max is not that much different. I have the 7, 8 Plus,X, Xʀ, and Max right now and I can truly state that the content you get from the Max and Xʀ is very similar. Of course this is all me just guessing as I don’t work at Apple or have any inside knowledge. I’m just basing it from analytics I’ve seen and articles I have read.

I’m just thinking here but a 5.4” iPhone that’s Edge to Edge would have to be the exact same size as a 4.7” 7, or 8 since a 5.8” one is almost the same size lol.

That's a lot of prognostication about the imaginings Ming threw up to the internet about a possible phone 2 years away.

We’re still in 2019 and the complaining has already started for 2020. Wow.

I’m a forward thinker. ;)

What are you saying - you’d go from the XS Max to the 5.4”, but not a 5.8”? If so, why isn’t the XS suitable?

Hmm, this is what I feared - Apple thinking the cheapest (yet non-flagship specced) iPhone which sold well in its first year is the one they don’t want to tweak, form factor-wise.

Do we have any stats pointing to the 6.1” being the most widespread Face ID model since 2017? Now I’m curious.

I hear that 5G takes lots of power and will require a larger device that can hold a larger battery.

No way we will see a new SE sized phone from Apple with 5G. I suspect that 5G will only be in the larger or largest devices from Apple.

You can bet that all of Apple's 2020 phone will NOT be 5G.

You’re right, they did, they made XR too competitive against the XS, and it’s $250 cheaper. The main differences between the XR/XS is the telephoto lens, 3D Touch and of course the aesthetics with the OLED panel. And let’s be honest, the majority of consumers don’t care about 3D Touch, OLED and/or the aesthetics of the XS. The XR will far outweigh the XS in terms of sales, strictly just because of the price point, especially when Consumers see the exact same form factor.

It makes me question whether I want to upgrade this year.

My iPhone 7 is a bit meh currently a new phone would be nice.

I'll have to see, but I don't think reverting to smaller phones is a bad idea.

I definitely agree here. I certainly would not mind a smaller phone (as I'm sure others wouldn't be opposed to it).

And plus, I'm not going to overreact to a rumor at this point. When/If Apple eliminates the 5.8" iPhone, then I'll react.

Kuo predicted the 5.8-inch iPhone X with OLED display and stainless steel frame back in March 2016. 1.5 years early.

I believe the 5.4" and 6.7" rumor. It's a very specific thing to predict. And it's already backed by a 2nd source (DigiTimes, admittedly, but they are sometimes right…)

Pretty much. Coming from anyone else but Kuo, grain of salt, but hey it's Kuo, 'nuff said. Lol. I hope Apple continues to offer the same features in both size options on the "premium" versions. It's nice when you don't need to get the Plus/Max size (whatever they name it) just to get all the bells and whistles.

It’s odd how some people act as if they are personally offended when Apple decides to change screen size or form factor. “The nerve of them to change to a size that does not agree with meeeeeee!”

Kuo even predicted the exact resolution of the iPhone X display.

It’s a personal device.

& when they reach a sweet spot form factor many were waiting for during the 4.7” era, before eliminating that form factor (just a rumour), people will react.

Some of us don’t buy a new phone every year. We invest in the thing for 2+ years. If something as significant as screen size alters, for the money we pay, we have every right to discuss/critique it.

Who cares? It’s pretty obvious their are a lot of fans of smaller iPhones.. and that’s the market the 5.4” model will target.

Just take comfort in the fact Koh is not 100% infallible and gets stuff wrong, he has done lately a few times..
But personally I hope he’s right as I’ll replace my XR with one with an OLED screen :D

Certainly when in 2020 it will have oled

I’m not going to complain about the device when I know nothing except for the screen diameter. I’d rather wait until I can try one with my own hands.

Besides, who knows - maybe it folds up or rolls up into some fancy shape?
