why are my read incoming messages still listed in bold font (sender name that is)? I've gone to preferences > viewing and unticked "display unread messages in bold font" and also preferences > fonts and colours and made the message list font a regular typeface.

I check mine and it's the same. Whether I check or uncheck to have unread messages bold. I had not noticed this before. I am running Sierra and I remember them always being bold in El Capitan also.

Just for your info, the names are all Bold doesn't matter (read or unread) in Yosemite, El-Capitan and Sierra, I just now checked.
