Read only problem

I partitioned my hard drive and wanted to do two things.

I wanted to change the icon for my windows hard drive (I did this with my Mac HD no problem) and change the name (currently 'untitled' on Mac desktop).

The problem is the file is read only. Any ways around this?

Most likely the Boot Camp partition is formatted for NTFS (the default XP/Vista/7 filesystem), and since the NTFS support in Mac OS X is limited to read-only, you won't be able to change the name or the icon of the volume from there. Instead, restart and boot into Windows, then rename your C:\ drive from there. The new name will appear in OS X too.

To change the icon, it gets a bit more challenging. I'd recommend you follow the advice in this MacOSXHints.com forum thread:

(Aside: installing a third-party NTFS read/write driver in OS X may make your task a little easier, but you can investigate that further if you're interested.)

Unless you install MacFuse and NTFS-3G, your mac can't write or change those things in Mac OS.
If you'd just like to change the name, boot into windows and change the name there
