Mac, newb, I have read many of the threads regarding wireless network solutions. I think my needs are more simple than many so wondered about more directed advice.
I have ruled out Drobo, using Mac Mini as server, building server using old G4 as probably more than I need right now and too expensive, maybe in future.
I have: MacBook Pro 2.5ghz Core Duo, Westell 327W networking router (no USB, Ethernet 10/100) and external hard drive.
WOuld like:
1) to store all Itunes on network drive (and NOT on computer or it fills it up!). Libarary right now about 150gigs. WOuld like to work with files wirelessly, maybe stream music to MBP, or later to Airtunes.
2) 2 drive system, swappable drives, RAID 1 for some backup.
3) remote access a plus
4) store IPhoto libary here and work with it wirelessly
5) store iMovie library here and work with it wirelessly (don't have any vids right now, will just have some camcorder vids of new baby). Don't care about movies/TV shows.
I have narrowed down my choices to these two. It appears both support Mac, although from what I can tell the Ready NAS supports HFS+ and the Lacie does not. I honestly do not know what this means in practice.
Ready NAS will be about twice as much money making me lean towards Lacie, unless the NFS thing is important for me, or unless others have more salient thoughts!
Appreciate any help!
