I would buy at Datamem to insure Apple compatibilty.

http://www.datamem.com/parts_that_f...G4+1.42GHz+(M9848X/A)+14"_A_MF_E_Apple_A_C_E_

I looked up both 1.42 GHz iBooks, not sure which model number you have, but it' only $49.00 for 512MB RAM with lifetime guarantee and Apple compatibilty guarantee.
Both 14" models seem to be using the same DM50-154 part numbers

NewEgg does have some great prices, but if you order the wrong RAM, you'll end up paying a restocking fee.

I recently just bought a gig for my 12'' PowerBook (same RAM used in iBooks) at zipzoomfly.com (use to be known as googlegear which was a reputable company).

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=84533

It works perfectly and also is guaranteed to work. Reason why I chose this over datamem was it was free 2 day shipping. For me it turned out to be overnight because i lived close to where it was shipped out :D

alright... now that i've bought the ram from datamem, i was wondering if anyone has jumped straight from 512 mb to 1 gb ram and what kinds of main differences you have noticed in doing so? like, what exactly runs smoother, etc?
