Ready to Play in Hours!? Anyone else? Frustrated.

Anyone else experiencing this issue? I am attempting to download American Gangster in HD still from last night. Last night AppleTV was telling me it's Ready to Play in 5 hours. Now today at 15% downloaded it's saying Ready to play in 3 hours. Essentially 12 hours later, I have knocked off 2 hours of my ready to play. Others seem to have this issue with SD and HD content from the AppleTV discussion board on Apple's Support site. I have Cox Cable, and AEBS running an N network. I had no issues with AppleTV even after updating to 2.0.1. My movies would load in under a minute tops. I could have gone up the block to Blockbuster, rented the movie, watched it, and returned it at this rate. What's going on :apple:? Any suggestions?

I've ran diagnostics and did a restart, no such luck.

A faster connection is in order, methinks.
 
Is it possible to connect the :apple:TV to a wired connection and see if things speed up. That would at least help you narrow down where the slowdown is taking place.

I know my connection over N readys a movie in under a min.
 
I have a wired ethernet connection and when I first got the AppleTV, the downloading times of movies were in hours and there was a long delay before starting the movie. Strangely (and fortunately) after I upgraded to the latest AppleTV software last week, it has been much more snappy with only minutes before starting a movie.
 
You might try hard wiring your connection like everyone else suggested. You should get faster speeds that way. Do you have 802.11n? If you are running on 802.11g, that could be a cause of the delay as well.

I am running a complete N Network on the 5Ghz channel. I've reset the cable modem, with no luck. The TV and AppleTV are too far from each other to do a direct connection. I've never had an issue until last night with AppleTV quickly loading rented movies. AEBS is reporting that the AppleTV is connected at a rate of 270 through the Wireless Client log.

Just ran the connection test, and it looks like Cox is the problem. My connection rate with them is garbage, it's not even pulling up as DSL/Cable Modem speed area. Looks like it's time to give Cox a call. dbwie, thanks for the link, I never gave a thought to checking that since load times for webpages are the same and I really haven't had a need to download large files on my laptop.

Ran another test with speakeasy.net, and now I'm showing 1300 kbps for my download speed through Cox. Which is better then just a few minutes ago and American Gangster was still downloading during this recent test, but no change. Very strange.....is it possible too many people are trying to download this particular movie which would cause the issue?

Maybe - maybe more likely that your connection speed is not being matched by the actual data throughput. It may be that there are a lot of heavy users on your segment of Cox's network who are eating the bandwidth, or there may be a fault at Cox's end, or they may be throttling your bandwidth via packet shaping. I'd give them a call anyway and report the problem.
 
it appears to be an issue with 2.0.1 and connectivity issues. I'm seeing a good amount reporting it on the apple discussion board. One guy took his appletv in to get a patch done to fix the issue since apple stated that his update didn't patch/install fully. We'll see what apple does.

CLuv, when you run the Speakeasy test, you need to stop all other internet-related activity (downloads, etc.) on all computers in your household. You want to test the pure speed between your computer and Speakeasy's servers, and this can only be reliable if no other traffic is using your connection when you run the test. In general, you should pick the Speakeasy location nearest to you, although try other locations to be sure. I just checked my speeds...I am in Germany on a 16 mbps DSL line, and I got 11.8 mbps from Washington DC (not too bad, considering it's transatlantic), but only 1.2 mbps from NYC!! Congestion on certain internet nodes can really affect these tests, and in the past I've noticed NYC seems especially variable.

This will tell you what your internet connection is capable of. Frankly, 1300 kbps is pretty low; at that speed you're looking at HD movie download times of at least 6 hours and in real-world terms probably significantly longer. What is your service supposed to deliver (i.e., what is the advertised download speed)?
