ReadyBoost and VMware Fusion

Hi everyone. As I stated in my previous post, I became a new Mac user on Monday.

I just installed Vista Business by using Boot Camp yesterday. Then I decided to give VMware Fusion a try. So far so good although a bit of a delay, and I haven't even installed my programs yet (Office, Photoshop, Quicken).

I was thinking about upgrading to 4GB of RAM since I'd like to use apps such as Photoshop through Fusion if I need to, but am wondering if ReadyBoost works at all as it would be a cheaper alternative? Now I've never tried ReadyBoost on a PC but heard it does work, and I'm willing to try it if it will work through Fusion.

And I just found out about Unity... is it better than Coherence? I was thinking about trying Parallels next. I'd also like to try CrossOver Mac but seems like they don't support a lot of my apps.

Or should I just forget virtualization all together and just stick with Boot Camp.

Sorry if I sound ignorant. This is all just very new to me.

I've never tried ReadyBoost on a PC but heard it does work, and I'm willing to try it if it will work through Fusion.

I can tell you that Readyboost will not work in Fusion, and probably not
through Parallels either. Readyboost has some pretty high throughput
requirements, and the virtualisation overhead prevents the throughput
tests from passing. You can probably force Readyboost to operate,
but it will probably slow down your Windows VM if you do.

Shop around for your extra RAM. Don't buy it from Apple, they're overpriced.
And it's always best to max it out as soon as possible. Then you can assign
more RAM to your VM and have it operate faster.

Your other questions are too subjective. The nice thing about trial versions
is that you can make up your own mind.

You got that right. Apple wants $300 for 4GB.. yeah right. I was going to check out New Egg, but to be honest I'm in no hurry now. I went home last night and installed all of my apps, then I also changed VM's memory settings by giving Vista 1GB. Everything is running smoothly so far so I'm really pleased.
