real player vs. quicktime

i am new to mac

trying to run video off of the reuters tv site

they say you need realplayer to watch the videos....

i hate realplayer. i hate real networks.

is there a way to trick-out quicktime to play realplayer-formated video?

you need real player. quicktime will not play or stream real media.

Well the PC side has something called "Real Player Alternative"--by installing this, you only install a plugin that IE/Mozilla/etc. THINKS is the real thing, but it isn't. You can also stream real player .rm/.ram's THROUGH Media Player Classic (which Real Player Alternative runs through).

Just use Real. It is the worse program available, but if people still insist on using it on the Web then you'll have to download it (hell, I even prefer WMV to Real).

i refuse to use real media or install their software on my mac.

i did break down and install windows media player.

Actually the free Real Media Player for Mac is not that bad. I hesitated to download Real for about two years, then Frontline has a stream of it's shows on WM and Real. As it turned out RM was better that WM, at least with Frontline.
