REAL speaker problem.

So this isn't really my home turf, since I'm a Crackberry user, but that's not really the point. I come here at the mercy of this forum to help me fix my girlfriend's iphone:

To start with, it's a 1g, jailbroken, and there's no receipt. I'm not sure if the genii at the Apple store would accept it if I did a restore for her, I'm sure you guys would know more than I.

Anyway, the speaker doesn't work. I did some searching, so yes, I know that the "speaker" on the right is actually the microphone. The speaker doesn't work period. No sound from calls, speakerphone, or music. When I change volume, "headphones" isn't displayed, so I don't think it is the 3.5mm audio connector issue. It stopped working right after she dropped it on the ground, so what caused it isn't really the issue. The thing that perked my interest is that the speaker will work intermittently, mostly after she bangs it again, but only for a short time. This makes me think that maybe there is some sort of loose connection on the speaker or PCB. What I wanted to know is if this if this happened before and if anyone has fixed it. I don't have any qualms about tearing this thing apart and resoldering a connection if I have to, but I'd like to know what I'm up against first. Any help is greatly appreciated

If it's still under warranty run a Genius will fix it. I'm not certain but I think they enter the serial number and see if it is still under warranty. If not, you can try making the fix by yourself. Search YouTube for a video on how to take apart the iPhone 2G and follow it until you get to the part where you can stop. If the connection is good then you may need a replacement speaker.

Well, you see, she received the phone from her grandmother who found it, didn't know what it was but thought it was shiny, and locked it in a drawer for 7 months until her son found it, so I don't know if I really want to subject the phone to serial number identification, you know what I mean? I guess I'll just have to take it apart...

What a great adventure that iPhone has been on! Search YouTube for PDAParts. They have good videos on how to assemble and disassemble the iPhone and iPhone 3G.
