apple.com lists the battery at 9 hours but I have a very hard time believing that, those with a 2015 15" MacBook Pro, what is your battery experience like?

There are hundreds of threads regarding this on this forum. I suggest you try and use the search function.

I'll give you the TL;DR version of what you could've found by searching: 9 hours is achievable if your usage ressembles Apple's testing method, which is explained in the fine print on Apple.com.

With moderate use 6-7 hours isn't unheard of.

The heavier the use, the lower the battery life. It's just common sense. Don't go expecting you can peg the CPU and GPU at 100% and see 9 hours of battery.

The thing with the 9hours of usage is its very circumstantial. So the Non-AMD 15in MBP can run the 9hours only using safari to view webpages with out issue. However, it depends on what the content on the website is, how big the files are along with what brightness your screen is set at. So if your doing only YouTube surfing its going to be less than 9 hours because its displaying dynamic content on the screen as well as downloading large files. At that point it would be around 6hours.

Now, if you have the AMD 15in things get a bit more complicated. The reason being is that the AMD GPU uses a bit more power than the integrated gpu. Leaving it in Automatic Switching helps but some websites that use flash, java or even HTML5 animations or video will still trigger your computer to switch to the AMD chip. This can take a bit more time away for the increase smoothness of the AMD chip. Though some times it will switch when the integrated chip would have worked just fine.

In either case, the battery life on the new 15in MBP is very good and best in class. The only way you would get a longer lasting laptop is the 13in MBA. Up to 12 hours, but then you loose retina and some CPU & GPU power. Its all a balancing act.

Gaming will run you laptop at MAX performance and all bets are off. You can get a few hours depending on the game. But GTA V will only allow you around maybe 2.5. Then again you should not be doing serious gaming with out it plugged in anyway. Even high end gaming laptops are not good for gaming unless they are plugged in because of the massive power draw.

So basically it's around 5 hours

Also, is it ok to charge overnight every night before I sleep then just unplug it when I wake up? Or will it drain the battery

For doing light tasks like web browsing on safari, it is pretty decent. Turning down the brightness helps a lot. Its possible to squeeze out around 8 hours. Once you start doing more intensive tasks, that number drops a lot. I have the amd chip in my computer and when that turns on (even youtube videos and certain websites can trigger it), the battery life drops way faster. If you use gfx card staus, you can force your computer to run on the integrated graphics and that helps a lot for your battery. If you have the iris pro only model then you don't have to worry about any of this.

A LiPo battery doesn't care how you treat it.

No matter how much or how little you baby it, it'll still end up dying in 3-5 years(more if you're lucky) from old age.

Plug it in whenever you feel like it, use it whenever you feel like it, it doesn't matter. At all.

That's good to know, nice to know I can just plug it in and forget about it about not worry about it hurting the battery and overcharging

Just using Safari, Firefox, Tweetbot and a few other apps, I get about six hours with the display set at just less than halfway and the keyboard lights off.

Just now I timed how much it would take for my computer to drop 1%. It took 5 minutes to drop from 91 to 90%. Brightness set at halfway, only using safari to read articles and forums and using gfx card status to make the computer only run on integrated graphics. Im at 90% now and the battery life calculator says I still have 9:06 left, Although I'm not so sure about the accuracy of the battery life calculator.

I got home from work last Saturday around 2.30 and it had not died by 12am that night, granted I didn't check how long was left but all I was doing was browsing forums and reading about API's.

Overcharging it is pretty much impossible.

Nowadays all batteries have their own charging circuit. The power brick is used as a supply, think of it as a well. The battery is the one that decides if it needs juice or not, not the other way around. Unless the battery itself is faulty, it just cannot happen.
