Does anyone have any real world numbers on how much of a speed gain we will see from the new imacs versus the older 24" 2.66?
I know there are alot of numbers floating around (most are direct comparisons between older 3.6 and new 3.6) but I want to know how much faster am I gonna be able to render a specific clip or export a 1 hr movie file etc...
I had the 2.66 and just sold it 2 weeks ago in anticipation of the new iMacs. I am planning on buying the i7 but would really like to know "how much faster is it?"
I need to have some numbers to help convince my wife that is is worth it over a refurbed 24" 3.06

can anyone help me here?
and if you have links to other test sites can you break it down in laymens terms for me? please?
Thanks in advance!

does anyone have a clue what I can expect to see?
Just curious.
I appologize for the "help! I want to know which iMac I should buy - style thread" but I really don't have a clue here and this would be my 6th mac purchase in the last 9 years so it probably wont be my last either. I just want to know which is right for me right now???
)

I'm after exactly the same issue: real life differences, in FCS and LS specifically (what I'm gonna be using the 27" for). Except, I'm interested in the differences between i5 and i7 for those two apps. Since the quads are not even out yet, I will wait. I want to buy the quad - either i5 or i7 - sometime in January 2010, and I'm hoping by then someone will run a thorough test between the two. My advice to you would be to wait and see if someone somewhere does some tests with these apps... should happen, it's just a matter of time.

haha, thanks old corpse! thats exactly the info i figured you would give!
Just wait. Its what I have been doing for the past 6 months so I will wait a bit longer. I am getting a ton of pressure here to "just buy one already" since I am without a home computer now but I didn't want to rush and be dissapointed. I would like to know asap if it will be worth the wait for the quads (worth the extra cost as well) or if the top end available now will be "just as good" for what I am planning on doing. HD editing mainly.

I will WAIT
