Realistic shipping/delivery dates from Amazon?

Any ideas when people like Amazon will be sending their units out? I presume they bulk ordered, and units will start arriving next week, possibly even on Monday. This means we could get units on Wednesday? I'm just stabbing thin air over here....

I was about to order from Amazon until I saw that it said this at check out:

"Estimated ship date for this item: April 2, 2008"

The Air is no PS3 or Wii where they will be out of stock for a year, so pre-ordering on those conditions is worthless. I am betting there will be many in stock all over the place at retail before that ship date.

If that does, however, turn out to be the case, then I guess everyone should wait for next year's revision. Heh, it would be funny if the Air went its entire shelf-life "out of stock" or pre-order only.

That's just a blanket date that Amazon uses until they get them in stock which is usually within a week of Apple. I've ordered many newly announced Mac's from Amazon, and this is always the case. I'd be really surprised if they didn't get them in and start shipping them out this coming week.

No updates here, ordered 1.8/80 via goldbox deal, a little worried since it is now listed as "out of stock". Current ship date is 03.28!! Hopefully will come sooner but I am not holding my breath.

I gave up--canceled my two orders on Amazon. Last night, I bought a 1.6/80 at Stonestown in San Francisco. The Mac Specialist indicated that I got the last 1.6/80 and that only 1.8/64 SSD was left.

They got some in at the Jacksonville Apple store yesterday and I couldn't resist it any longer-drove down and picked one of the 1.6 ghz base models up and I can honestly say, I'm glad I did-it was worth sacrificing the discount for it! I still have my order in at Amazon, but only because now my other half is seriously considering Ebaying her Macbook and getting a MBA!

i just called up amazon and they told me that they hadn't received shipment in yet, but they advised me not to cancel it until the 7th...he didn't guarantee me that it would ship by the 7th or that they would even get them in by the 7th...so we'll see...

Given how the that's tomorrow and the order is on 2 day shipping I think it's safe to call their estimates complete fluff.

I also got an email from Amazon just now, and it's been bumped by 5 days:
"Estimated arrival date: 02/12/2008 - 02/13/2008"

Unfortunately that's my best bet as they are all sold out in NYC stores.

Update: Just got another email from amazon telling me it will ship today. Go figure.

I just got back from the 5th Ave store and they had MBA's in stock. I bought one, came back to my desk to cancel the amazon order and it says they are ready to ship and that I can't cancel...

I wish amazon would make up their mind...

Amazon must have gotten a big shipment very recently. I ordered a 1.6/HDD on 2-6-08 and my MBA is now being prepped for shipping. The expected shipping date says APRIL 7 but I think that is a mistake..should be Feb 7.

UPDATE 1: Ughh, I'm not sure what is going on now...my MBA is still in the shipping soon stage (cannot cancel) BUT est. delivery is still April 9th??? I sent an email to customer service for an explanation.

And of course the Apple store a block away from my work had a 1.6 HDD MBA when I dropped by during lunch.

UPDATE 2: Shipped on 2-7-08, delivery on Monday (should have sprung for overnight)

For all those who got tracking numbers from Amazon has yours updated status yet? Mine still says billing information received but the expected delivery date remains 2-8-2008. I'm in California and I know these ship from Nevada so I'm still hopefully for tommorow. The better have already started moving but haven't updated the tracking. Blah I hate being excited.
