I mean how long before they refresh the 9.7 specifically? Probably going to be months at least now by reckoning.

I'm pretty irritated as I expected the iPad Pros to be updated today. I want the 12.9" iPad Pro, but it lags behind even the current 9.7". Is it really a surprise that iPad sales are falling if they can't update their flagship product after a year and a half?!

I was ready to buy today, now I'll keep my money. And yes, I know this was all based on rumors, but again the flagship model is overdue for an update.

PS - glad I wasn't expecting a Mac Pro update ...

well it's not really a new Ipad but as the other person commented a refreshed 12.9 with the latest internals, and i would have ordered. I can understand the new 9.7 is the new entry point and they are going to save all the updates for the 10.5 inch in the fall, but the 12.9 is going to soldier on, why not update it now

How does the iPad 12.9 Pro lag behind the 9.7 Pro? They literally have the same features, aside from Tru-Tone. It's not that outdated by any means. The 9.7 Pro just had it's one year anniversary. You're making it sound as if the iPad Pro line is antiquated.

The iPad pros will be updated very soon . They're out of stock EVERYWHERE. My guess is an April event or at WWDC in June.

The new 10.5" will replace the 9.7" Pro. I would assume it will keep the same name. I can't see it coming out before the iPhone "Pro" does. Or maybe the same day as the iPhone Pro event.

I expect an update in Late 2017, October or something like that... I don't buy the out of stock situation.

They would not have updated the 9.7 today if an update of the other iPad Pro models is imminent.

I highly doubt Apple will have a rumored 10.5 iPad replace the 9.7 Pro. The 9.7 Pro is the newest in the Pro line and it's only been available for a year. Apple might supplement a new model to the iPad lineup, but certainly won't discontinue it.

And we don't know if OLED would exists on the 10.5 iPad, which would make sense to keep both the 9.7/12.9 Pro with Pencil Support.

My guess was the release today was for the minor bumps, and a Spring event that will most likely happen in April will announce major upgrades and new designs to the Pro line. That is my guess on why no changes were made and the heavy marketing they are doing regarding the iPad Pro lately.

The 9.7" has much better cameras, and a wide color display (P3) with True Tone. And my main issue is that by this point, they should both have an A10X processor.

Of course the 10.5" OLED will be the new Pro. What else could it possibly be? "iPad Pro Pro"?

I understand you appreciate different features, but it certainly doesn't make either model 'Outdated.' They both are more than capable of handling tasks, with both models being less than 18 months old.

Of course you say? Do you have evidence showing OLED is guaranteed? You're argument doesn't make sense. We don't if OLED is even a possibility at this point and how Apple will manage the lineup IF a 10.5 iPad exists at all. The iPad Pro moniker also contributes to the Apple Pencil, which it's dependent on how expands this across the product line.

I didn't say outdated, I said in need of an update. My Air 2 works perfectly fine, I don't consider it outdated or obsolete. That said, if I'm going to spend over $1k on a new iPad, I want the latest technology.

I know the 12.9" would work as it is today. If I bought one when this model was relatively new, I would have considered it a good value. But 18 months later at the same price, I consider it in need of an update. Especially because I want the features that it doesn't yet have.

I guess we can agree to disagree. ;)

I am really in need of an iPad Pro. I am a musician, and it is really ideal for viewing and editing sheet music. I am tired of caring around huge stacks of music and would love to consolidate in an iPad pro. Do you realistically think that the new iPad Pro 2 12.9 inch will be coming soon? I want the 12.9 inch, because its perfect for music. Apple has been advertising the heck out of the iPad Pro recently, but no one has the 12.9 inch model in stock. Are they trying to clear out the old inventory to release a new model? If not, why would they be heavily promoting a product that they have very limited stock on. If you don't think new iPads are coming soon, should i get the current model? Thanks!

There's no definitive way of knowing when or if a new iPad Pro is coming. There has been a lot speculation that March would see a new iPad Pro, and that did not happen. The current 12.9 iPad Pro will be more than capable of handling your needs if you decided to upgrade.

Some are thinking the 10.5 iPad will debut sometime between April through May.

No, I don't expect to see an update to the 12.9 Pro before Nov of this year.

iPads regularly go in and out of stock. I know that many disagree with me, but you cannot foretell the release of a new model based on inventory levels in the retail channel.

My advice, decide on the model and capacity you want and then watch diligently for sales. Never pay full retail for one. At the very least you should be able to get one for at least $100 off within a few weeks.

I'm an illustrator and I see myself stucked in the same position. The 12.9 is perfect for my work as a cintiq alternative, but the reality is a little more sad. Some spec (and display) upgrades would be perfect for future proofing (I work in extremely high resolutions and a lot of layers), but as I looked, the current model already supply the majority of my needs. The only problem for me is this long gap between price x benefit (paying this much on a 13month old technology is so frustrating).

I already waited a month or two for the IPP2, but now I'm really considering to get the first model.
So sad, Apple...

The iPad Pro 2 will be out when apple is ready too release them

WTF is up with the 12.9 iPad Pro availability? I lost my iPad Pro a few days ago and I can't buy a new one with cellular service because they are out of stock everywhere and the rumor of an iPad Pro 2 release this month appears to be a bust.

Given the minor and some would say inconsequential update that occurred yesterday, I wouldn't expect to see anything for a while, otherwise they would have made a bigger event

I'm with the others saying this fall is probably when we'll see the next major update.

The 12.9" is from november 2015 so I would suggest finding a good discount somewhere. I don't know where the rumor of a fall release for 2017 comes from, but until yesterday's store update it looked like April would bring new iPad Pros. This could stil be true.

What could the new version bring? Well, look at the 9.7" which has the new screen tech and camera. Throw in the A10X chip and that's it. The old model would still be a good buy, but it depends on what you pay for it.

Taken straight off of Front Page:

"For those looking for a bit more, Apple is rumored to be planning to introduce an updated ~10-inch iPad Pro model that's going to replace the existing 9.7-inch iPad Pro. The ~10-inch model is said to have smaller bezels and perhaps an edge-to-edge display, allowing it to feature a bigger screen in a 9.7-inch-sized body."

A front page quote on a rumored website doesn't make this headline any more factual than what any one else believes on here. This is just speculation and prediction based of analysts, just like everybody else offers opinions on this website as well. That might be taken off the front page, but it's not concrete until Apple confirms it. For the record, analysts, MacRumors, insiders and any other reporting website have been wrong multiple times with product releases and or expectations of what to expect For future product lines.

And it's too difficult to say where this all leads with the introduction of this new 9.7 inch iPad that debuted yesterday. There appears to be a lot of confusion how Apple plans to regulate the current iPad lineup. And then you factor in where OLED is leading as well changes the path.
