I just discovered that my wife's M1 Pro has the worst bloom I've seen on one of these. Unfortunately, AppleCare is expired so I don't really have any options. I've made a Genius Bar appointment just to see what they say though. Has anybody seen a case of bloom this bad? There's also a constant blue border around a white background as well as an abnormal jump in brightness going from 7 to 8 clicks.

Screen is likely faulty or there's liquid/cable damage internally, take it in for service, but not before trying a clean-install.

I’ve seen it this bad on the 12.9” iPad Pro. This is exactly how that display looks in low light minus the border around the screen. My 2021 16” MBP has some blooming, but it’s minimal and much reduced compared to this. I’d get it checked out.

Update: Previous to making the OP, I had restarted the machine multiple times, updated to the latest OS, tried safe mode, anything else I could think of but the problem persisted. This morning, I tried shutting down the machine and leaving it off for an extended time before turning back on. I think the machine has now reset the NVRAM/PRAM or whatever the equivalent on Apple Silicon is on its own. The problem seems to have gone away for now. I will continue to monitor it to see if it comes back. Very odd.

Relieved for you that it seems to have been software related. Let's hope it stays that way!

Mine did this once. The mini LEDs all get stuck on which turns it into a **** panel instantly. Powering it down and back on completely solved it and it never happened again.

I did clench a bit when it happened!

If the mini LEDs were all on, the screen would be gray in black areas. You wouldn't see blooming around bright pixels.

You quoted the wrong post, just a heads up :)
Very weird. I swore I selected the right one. Hmmm... thanks.

Meant to quote the OP's post:

Have you installed/used any display-enhancement software like Vivid? Potentially cranking the backlighting and having the setting get stuck could produce an issue like that.
No third party software like that was ever used. I have no clue what initially caused it.

Yes you would. The mini LEDs would be stuck on full whack. If a single bright pixel is on they dim the LED closest to it otherwise the panel will bloom because of the diffuser layer.

If all of the LEDs are on at full brightness, the LEDs close to bright pixels would be the same brightness as LEDs in fully black areas. Thus a constant brightness across the whole screen and no blooming. This is basically the same scenario as older LCD screens with no local dimming.
